Title: Technologies for goal oriented mathematics teaching in open scenarios

Abstract: A recent curricular revision in Denmark has focused on formulating learning goals for pupils. Furthermore a new legislation suggests goal directed teaching as a consistent approach to teaching in Danish primary and lower secondary school. However, pedagogical knowledge suggests the importance of open-ended scenario oriented teaching. This tension have been point of departure for a design based research project that simultaneously promotes goal-oriented teaching, and generate knowledge about use patterns and perceived value and obstacles to goal directed teaching. The technological dimension of the intervention is the Goal Arrow (maalpil.dk), a digital tool that supports goal-orientation in education, by allowing teachers to describe lesson plans and expressing associated situated learning goals related to the national curriculum. Data for each student is collected over a period of time and in relation to several goal arrows, making it possible to sketch out a student achievement profile, a class profile, and a profile of the curriculum areas covered in the period. In my talk, I will describe the project and intervention as well as explore cases of mathematics teaching making different uses of the Goal Arrow

Abstract: User Centred Design and User Experience have been an important field of the product development for a long time, but not until the recent triumph of agile methodologies it has gained a central role in the development process. This shaped the whole company culture and made it centred around the end users. In my talk I will present a model of UX and it’s applications to Prezi, the zooming presentation app. UX has three roles in the Prezi product: 1) it is a source of vision, forming the way how the company thinks about the future of the product as well as shaping the goals we want to achieve with it; 2) it is a basis of the company culture, serving as an underlying layer of all activities that are carried out in various departments and processes within the company; 3) it serves as channel to provide feedback on the design and development of the product. In my talk, I will describe and categorize the different methods that offer us feedback about our applications and to elaborate on the roles of these methods in different parts of the development process.
