Message by Zsolt Lavicza <zl221@cam.ac.uk>
Dear All,
It was great to meet you in Linz in July. I hope that the sessions were useful and we will be able to continue this work during the upcoming years.
You can find my slides in the course wikipage and readings for next time.
We will have our next meeting on 29-30 September, which will include a similar workshop as we did in July on 29 September and it will be followed by a research day in the college on 30 September. It would be great if you could read the following two papers to have some discussion of methodologies in the sessions:
Cobb, P., Confrey, J., diSessa, A., Lehrer, R., & Schauble, L. (2003). Design Experiments in Educational Research. Educational Researcher, 32(1), 9–13.
Johnson, R. B., & Onwuegbuzie, A. J. (2004). Mixed methods research: A research paradigm whose time has come. Educational researcher, 33(7), 14–26.
Also, please prepare a 5 min presentation about your or your students' research plans. Then, we will be able to give feedback on the presentations and further your ideas.
In the next session we will discuss some methodological options and would be good to work on your own topics. Furthermore, we will do some exercises considering the statement from the last session:
"The government of your country believes that the loss of students interests and motivations toward STEM subjects results in the decline in students’ achievements in these subjects and fewer students taking STEM courses at universities causing economic problems in the country. They also believe that equipping schools with more technology could contribute to the resolution of this problem."
If you have any questions please write to me and I will try to reply as soon as possible.
Have a beautiful summer!
Kind regards,
Zsolt
